I’m Bob Bruu, a wood carver obsessed with making the impossible look real. I hand-carve everyday objects; clothing, hats, shoes and iconic pieces of culture—from basswood Using layers of paint to create hyper-realistic detail. My inspiration comes from the things we wear, the places we love, and the memories attached to them, especially the spirit and culture of Hawaii. I want people to look twice, question what they’re seeing, and discover that what appears to be fabric or clothing is actually wood. Every piece is one-of-a-kind, built by hand with patience, precision and a passion for pushing carving somewhere unexpected.
